Mine and Efua's was love at first sight. We met for the first time at Lagos and that was it!. She picked on me as one person she believed is working at the grassroots and that she could work with in her struggle to end FGM in a generation. Efua,I remembered how you asked me to join you at the reception area of the hotel in Addis Ababa and how you told me some of your efforts and results in the war against FGM and why you pick on me. You even gave me the video clips of some documentaries on your work. The short period I had to relate with you was highly remarkable and impactful to the extent that I can never forget. Is it the way you used to pronounce my name, with one kind sweetness that I will forget, or the passion you put to everything during deliberations or your dressing or comportment, which one? You made an impression on me that I will never forget. I never knew we would not meet again after the few minutes we had to discuss at the Girl Summit in London. Your death is a colossal lost to humanity, particularly to women and girls but we take solace in God knowing fully that your efforts were not in vain. We promise to keep the flag flying as a memorial to you Efua. Sleep on, a Titan of our time and a good example of womanhood! A Tribute to Efua Dorkenoo OBE, by Aduke Obelawo from Nigeria.
