I am overwhelmed with shock and sadness, like so many others, with the news of Efua's passing. I've known her from the early 1980's as a personal friend, sister and inspiration. She achieved so much in the cause of eradicating FGM and promoting women’s rights and it is a great tribute to her that so much progress was made in the last week of her life. Not only was she was a brilliant campaigner and communicator, but I am forever indebted to her for the transformational role she played in my own life by connecting me to my Ghanaian family and heritage. We will keep up the fight against FGM in her memory.
