Efua's voice

My most vivid memory of Efua is her voice; her unique, warm, motherly tone, the way she weighed every word and let it resonate before she moved to the next, how she rolled out her 'yes' and nodded when she agreed with you or how genuine it felt when she said 'good to see you'. I never remember her raising her voice though she often had reason to; she just stressed every syllable more, allowed more time between each word - these - are - British - children - at the same time as you could feel the anger being contained in her chest. She had a very fitting voice. I won't be the first to say how inspiring Efua was, but it's true. I never knew where she found such reserve of patience and determination but I wish I had half of it! I feel privileged to have known her but also know the privilege comes with a huge responsibility to follow her example. I will miss her.
